Tips For Conquering Procrastinating

A personality trait that few of us like to admit to having is procrastination. Although we insist that we don’t, there are times when we just can’t help ourselves. There are ways to deal with this thankfully, and I’ve a few ideas for you here.

Your first step is to actually admit to yourself that you do it. There’s no great shame in it, you’re simply acknowledging the fact that you do procrastinate.

Now you must sit down and either write down or mentally note what you have missed out on due to your habit of procrastinating. There are so many things this covers that you may end up pretty ashamed of yourself.

The list you have in front of you may be quite upsetting, but you have to think forward, not back.

Right okay, here’s the big one, you are stopping procrastinating NOW. You started it so only you can stop it. When you put things off, they build up in your head until they reach mammoth proportions when in reality they are anything but. Just get it over with and see how good you feel.

Procrastination can get us into a right mess, especially if it is something like homework assignments. You start with one, then two and eventually end up with so many that you can’t get them done in time and get a fail. This applies to everything, not just homework, get them done and out of the way straight away, then you can relax and not worry about the things you should be doing instead.

Procrastination can arise from a lack of self confidence in doing things that we don’t think we are capable of. Now that you have managed to take the step and have finished those tasks, you should feel great. They weren’t as bad as you thought and you completed them no problem when you put your mind to it.

If you have followed this advice step by step you should see light at the end of the tunnel and have the confidence to take on the tasks and break the procrastination pattern. Be aware all the time however, how easily you could slip back into it. Form now on, every time you are given a task, do it immediately without thinking twice about it.
