Taking A Pet In Your RV
If you are planning to take a trip out of town, you may be worried about leaving your pets behind. After all, your dog or cat is an important part of your family. Many people can’t handle being away from their furry friends for an extended period of time. One great thing about traveling in an RV, however, is that you can easily take your pets with you on vacation.
It can be so depressing boarding your pet at a traditional kennel. In fact, you may feel guilty on your vacation knowing that your dog or cat is locked up alone in a little cage. However, when you bring them along on your vacation, you don’t need to worry about their happiness. You can be assured that they are having a great time. Plus, you can save the expense of having to keep them in a kennel. Feel free to use that money for something that you actually enjoy!
So what do you need to know in advance if you plan to bring your pet with you in your RV? One main consideration is their safety. After all, they can’t just wear seatbelts like the rest of the family. In the case of a dog or cat, you will need a kennel. While a dog can wear a pet seat harness, cats really do need to travel in a carrier for their own safety.
Just like you need a good RV mattress for your trip, your pet is going to need a good pet bed. You probably want to use the same one that you use at home. Also make sure that you bring some toys to keep your pet busy on the road. Also don’t forget the food and water bowls. Your dog will need plenty of water, especially if you are traveling to a hot climate.
If you are bringing a dog with you on your journey, it is recommended to stop every 3-4 hours so that he or she can stretch, get some water and go to the bathroom. Be sure to always keep your dog on a leash. If your dog were to get lost, after all, it would quickly ruin your vacation. You can also find leashes for cats that will allow them to go to the bathroom outside. Having a litter box inside your RV would not exactly be a pleasant experience.
Don’t forget that your pets will occasionally need to take breaks to relieve themselves. Make sure that you have a good leash for your pets. After all, chasing after them in a parking lot or down the highway could quickly ruin your trip.
